Mandatory course: Cyber Security Operations (10 ECTS)

Cyber Security Operations (10 ECTS) is a mandatory course in the 3rd semester of the Professional Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity. The course focuses on security monitoring systems and operational cybersecurity practices within organizations. Students work with backup strategies, risk analysis, patch management, DevOps culture, and the analysis and documentation of logs and incident data.

The course also covers disaster recovery planning and risk assessments based on current threat landscapes, as well as the handling of minor security incidents. Teaching is practice-oriented and combines theory with real-world cases from the IT industry.

Students develop skills in collecting and analyzing data, assessing security-related challenges, and communicating professional solutions. The course emphasizes independent responsibility, collaboration, and professional ethics. The examination consists of a combined written and individual oral exam, assessed according to the Danish 7-point grading scale.

Elective: Security in Industrial Control Systems (10 ECTS)

Elective: Security in Industrial Control Systems (10 ECTS)

This course provides an introduction to cybersecurity in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) environments. The course focuses on how security in OT differs from traditional IT security and why industrial environments require specialized protection strategies. Students will gain insight into the architecture and components of ICS environments, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, sensors, and industrial networks.

Through practical exercises and case-based learning, students will gain hands-on experience with PLC communication, industrial protocols, and the assessment of security in industrial systems.

Elective: Cybersecurity Culture and Human Risk (10 ECTS)

Most cybersecurity incidents are not caused by technology alone, but by human behavior.

This course introduces students to the human side of cybersecurity and provides a practical, risk-based approach to working with security awareness, behavior, and culture in organizations.
Instead of focusing only on knowledge and training, the course explores how and why people make decisions, how behavior creates risk, and how organizations can design solutions that make secure behavior the easy choice.

This approach reflects a growing industry focus on human risk as a key component of cybersecurity.

After completing this course, students will be able to design and implement targeted, behavior-driven cybersecurity initiatives that reduce real risk and can be anchored in organizational practices and compliance frameworks.

Question 4

Elective: Digital Forensics (10 ECTS)

Accepted Answer

The student is able to carry out a digital forensic investigation on one or more computers. Through the course, the student learns to understand and organize an investigation of evidence, as well as how the handling of sensitive personal data must be managed.

Question 5

Elective: Ethical Hacking (10 ECTS)

Accepted Answer

The course aims to develop students' professional competencies within offensive security testing of systems and the ethical and legal frameworks surrounding it. The course focuses on practical exploration of vulnerabilities, exploitation techniques, and reporting using a controlled testing environment.

Prerequirements

Minimum 1 year of studies completed in similar fields like computer science and IT security with basic understanding of data security, automation and scripting

English proficiency requirements

At EK, students must prepare for each class by reading relevant literature, discussing it with their group or with the lecturers and writing projects already from the first weeks of the semester. This means you must be used to speaking, reading and writing English at a high level.

The minimum level of English accepted at EK is B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages corresponding to TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.0.

EK reserves the right to reject students whose English level is below this level.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend all lectures throughout the semester in order to acquire the needed skills to pass the exams.

Even if attendance is not registered, our experience is that students will only excel at their exam projects, if they have attended all or most lectures.

Question 9

Independent study skills

In addition to attending lectures, it is very important that students work independently and with their groups on a daily basis throughout the semester.

This means that even if the fixed schedule of lectures appear light, students at EK are expected to dedicate around 40 hours per week of studying and working with their groups in order to be equipped for the exams.

Punctuality

At EK, and in Denmark in general, you are always expected to be on time for classes, advising sessions, meetings with your group, work, and social appointments.

We know punctuality varies a lot from one culture to another, and that is why we would like to emphasize the importance of this in Danish culture to our visiting exchange students as it can otherwise become a source of frustration in various social and study settings.

Teaching Methods

The approach at EK is practical, meaning students must apply theories and models in practice, in cases inspired by real companies.

Students will work in groups with students of different nationalities and they will have to solve tasks together. Most casework, projects and exams are performed as group work.
